About us
Cavalos na Areia project was founded in 2011 by José Ribeira in Comporta, where he moved to make his dream come true - connecting equestrian activities to outdoor life, in direct contact with nature.
The school and horse rides started with just twelve horses, kept in an old rice warehouse in the village of Torre, having grown over time and respecting the place where it is located.
We currently have over 40 horses in our new and modern facilities, very close to the rice fields.

The project has gained awareness due to the natural surroundings and its unique characteristics: an endless desert beach, surrounded by rice fields, pine forests and dunes. A paradise of intense colours, part of the Reserva Natural do Estuário do Sado (a natural reserve) which has not yet been discovered by mass tourism circuits, and preserves its traditional features and attracts travellers from all over the world.

The Team
Our success is also the result of the work of our dynamic and cooperative team, formed by experienced guides, instructors and carefully chosen and trained horses.
Our customers’ safety and well-being is paramount, enabling children and adults to participate in our activities, even if they have no previous horse riding experience. We are open 365 days a year and it is our goal to make people happy, especially those who have never ridden a horse before.

This project also extends its services to other activities, such as canoe and bicycle rides, photo/ video caption of our tours, as well as renting our space and equipment for all kinds of events, filming and photo sessions.
The desire to expand our project also resulted in finding new places as a way to diversify our offer in different landscapes. We have now a new experience alongside the trails of Serra da Arrábida, Quinta do Esteval (Hotel Casa da Palmela), originating in the new project Cavalos da Serra.
Cavalos na Areia, known for its rigor and attention to detail, in addition to contributing to the development of good tourist activities, also assumed a social responsibility role by being involved in projects with schools and local organizations. These activities are committed to be integrated harmoniously in the environment they take place in.
In 2017 the project was recognized with the award for Best Tourist Animation Company, by Turismo do Alentejo. In the same year, Cavalos na Areia was also awarded in the biggest sensation category by the Regional Tourism Entity (E.R.T.) at the “Alentejo’s Oscars” .
With almost a decade of existence our success is recognized by the numerous existing testimonies. From articles and references in several publications, to words of appreciation from those who visit us, we must also mention the celebrities that experienced Cavalos na Areia, such as Madona, Shakira or Ronaldo, who contributed extremely to the awareness and media coverage of the project.
